Project: Porto Tolle power plant

Porto tolle power plant supply and discharge chain study

On behalf of ENEL SpA we studied the costs related with the logistic chain aimed to supply coal to Porto Tolle power plant, located along Po river, and discharge the residual combustion products.
The main dimensions of the units involved in the chain have been optimized taking into account both the environmental limitations and the costs.
The proposal consisted in a floating offshore transhipment terminal aimed at receiving coal from ocean going vessels and transfer to smaller units suitable for navigation in shallow waters in the river passages.
We compared and highlighted pros and cons of the following alternatives for sea transportation:

♦ Self propelled unit

♦ Pusher tug connected to one barge

♦ Convoy of more barges and one pusher tug

F/C Princesse Abby is designed for offshore transhipping operations in Indonesian waters within 20 miles from shore.
The unit is capable of loading or discharging bulk cargo (iron ore, coal and other dry bulk materials) from vessels up to the largest Cape-size.

The M/V Ore Fabrica was a single screw ore carrier converted into the world’s largest iron ore transhipper capable of discharging dry bulk cargoes (particularly iron ore) from vessels over 400.000 DWT.
The systems were designed for carrying out offshore crane operations with significant wave height values over 2m and wind speed over 30 knots.

Feasibility studies, 3D laser scans and development of the full engineering package for the installation of the exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers).
Supervision during installation on newbuildings and retrofitting at repair shipyards. Experience with bulk carriers, tankers, container ships, and Ro-Ro passenger ships.
Training of a team of local superintendens in main chinese shipyards (Shangai, Dalian, Zoushan, Guangdong, Nantong, SWS) in support of western superintendents.

Project: BWTS and scrubber installation

Laser Scanning

Survey of the engine room and technical spaces was carried out with 3D laser scanner for the retrofit installation of Ballast Water Treatment System and Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (scrubber). Scan carried out with Leica BLK 360, the smallest scanner available on the market, to include in the point cloud piping details and narow areas below flooring, where removal was not possible.
